Admittedly, when viewing this post the top was the same as always….no rainbow. However, I do wonder what would happen if a cross was in it’s place and the world had to view that whether they liked it or not. Can you imagine? Hysterics would abound. Hmmm…..not a bad idea…. 😉
Ahhhh….I found it. An imposed “rainbow” on my stats page. No thank you very much.
It definitely shows that WordPress believes that their worldview is mainstream enough to risk offending those who do not hold their views. But the rainbow says something different to me than it does to the WordPress administration.
It speaks to me of God’s great mercy: although people can and do pervert His creation, this is the symbol He chose as His promise never again to destroy the world by flood. He knew when He chose the rainbow as this symbol of mercy, that it would one day be coopted in this way. And yet, this is the symbol He chose.
So when I see it, it speaks even more potently about the mercy He shows all of us. And for those who choose to act in defiance to their creator, I pray that He opens their hearts to His son Jesus, who died for us while we were yet sinners. I am a living proof that He redeems sinners. It is not His will that any should perish, and so I pray for Him to soften their hearts so that they are able to perceive the truth, repent of their sins, and be saved by faith in Him.
Regardless of how we see it, IT being on our blogs in celebration of depravity and wickedness is the point, WordPress is causing US to join in by virtue of THEM putting it on OUR blogs, without our permission….and refusing to remove it when asked to. And that, is not something we should remain quiet about or let stand. THAT rainbow is about perversity….and they have foisted it upon those who they know believe that is exactly what it is. May we never remain quiet in that kind of situation. In essence….Wordpress has hijacked Christian blogs in the name of celebrating wicked perversion. Hypocritically as well, as one could bet we could not hijack a homosexual blog with a cross, now could we? No.
So being forced to accept as well as promote that depravity on blogs that belong to those who belong to CHRIST who never condones this sin is the issue. And we need to stick to the issue and not try to avoid it by sentimentalizing and rationale.
It’s not sentimentalizing or rationalization. I know exactly what WordPress (and our secular world) intend the rainbow to represent, and it is terrible that they are imposing their views upon our blogs. I agree completely with you.
I was merely commenting that it is very meaningful that the very symbol of His mercy is what they have chosen to use to symbolize their celebration of what is an abomination to Him. It speaks volumes about how great that mercy really is. What an awesome God. I find myself overwhelmed by His goodness every time I see that rainbow co-opted.
I am in no way defending the co-opting of the rainbow. It speaks to man’s depravity, and it is very sad and very offensive.
But it is ironic that they have chosen the symbol of His very mercy to defy Him. And I love how He works out every detail. It reminds me that He is in charge, even when the world is intent upon destroying itself in defiance.
Oh I understand. And it is ironic. However, God’s word and His truth never change, nor does our commission to the lost and perishing regardless of the level of depravity. If not for the grace of God in Christ, WE could very well be them. So, we continue to stand for the truth, speak it, promote it, and refuse to compromise or run away. I have given a lot of thought to pulling my blog here and going to blogger. I have decided to stand and continue to stand here. If their agenda is to cause us to leave, which it may well be, someone has to not run away and continue to speak the truth. They may cause emotional reactors to leave, but this sister will not unless they censor or delete my account.
So in closing I have to say, the rainbow is not the issue at all anyway. What IS at issue is marriage, God’s way, created BY Him to reflect Christ and the Church. And for that issue alone it is worth continuing.
