Someone reminded me of this past post from 2010 (and I was reminded of how long ago it was posted and how the one I see IN this post in my own life has not changed a whit. So with that in mind I feel it bears reposting. Kind of a time capsule that this time I shall not dismiss. For those who have ears to hear….and those who do not. The truth here still stands. And you are rightly judged by that truth.~AGM†

“This is a reblog from a sister’s blog that I just found today. I thought it to be very good. While scripture has many more things to say in order to distinguish the reborn from the falsely converted…this is a great place to start. Are you still living in the sin you think you were “saved” out of? Well, for instance…do you still commonly tell lies? Do you still commonly look after things one would not look after if they hated the sin of lustful or wandering eyes? Do you still continue to say that you have no sin (the truth then is not in you), or do you minimize your sinfulness? Do you judge yourself by your estimation of you instead of God’s as found in His word? Do you read and not apply scripture? Are you given solid biblical evidence, and yet cannot see or understand how it could possibly refer to your behavior? Are you ever learning and yet never coming to the full knowledge of Christ in you? There are many more. If you are reborn, you are super sensitive to the things that you used to do and live and don’t even want to see them, let alone do them. And your sin grieves you…drives you to confessing it, seeking the forgiveness of God and those your sin has offended. Your conscience is tender and sensitive to it in you. And you actually hate it and do all you can THROUGH Christ to stop. If you are not…then according to the word of God, you are not Christ’s, and you are only fooling yourself. Those who know you can see it…God’s word tells you that they can, and indeed, they can. So agreement with scripture will not save you. Knowing scripture will not save you. reading it will not save you (unless you humble yourself and God uses His word to break the living tweedle outta you). And no amount of mental assent will change your heart or bring you to the Father as His child, but will only keep you self satisfied and a child of His wrath. Live to please HIM, and you will not live to please yourself. Unless, of course, your SELF is your little god. A voracious god, that…never satisfied until it has destroyed you and all those you touch. Satan is like that.~AGM†”

How do we know we have been changed?

Is it possible to know?

“…for by what he saw and heard that righteous man (Lot), while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds.”  2 Peter 2:8

Sin will torment us.  If we are comfortable, day after day with what God hates, with what clearly goes against His Word, we most likely have not been changed…

As we grow in our knowledge of Christ, so will our hatred of sin.  A simple truth, but it is also the difference between eternal, abundant life, and death.  The danger of not being in the Word on a daily basis, is that it causes us to get comfortable with sin.

“Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!  Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you–unless indeed you fail the test?”

2 Corinthians 13:5

God’s workmanship begins when we have repented and turned from our sin.  We have assurance that we are His masterpiece in progress, when our hatred and mourning over sin continues, and we continue to live a life of repentance and obedience.
