Genesis Chapter 11: The Tower of Babel
The Tower of Babel
Genesis 11

1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

How many of us are guilty of building our own path to heaven?

There are very few people alive who do not want to go to heaven. Most do but don’t want God to be there when they arrive.

I have met a few poor souls who want to go to hell, because they think in their folly, that they will party, drink and have sex for eternity.

But most struggle and strive to build their tower out of their own works and effort in order to find their way into heaven.

Shouldn’t we rely on the source of the One who said how to get to heaven rather than trying to make up our own solutions? Jesus Christ…yes Him. He is the most hated Man in the world. More people hate Him, than all the murderers, rapists, terrorists and used-car salesmen put together.

The name of Jesus evokes anger, hostility, defensiveness and pride. No wonder people don’t want to have anything to do with Him. He cramps their style!

BUT…Jesus is the source of all truth. In fact He is truth. He said that no man can go to heaven except he enter through one specific door. That door being…yep, you guessed it…Jesus Christ Himself.

All these people, whether they be just plain sinners, atheists, agnostics, feminist butches,  homosexuals, philosophy professors…it makes no difference. Every man, woman and child, attempts to make his own rules and breaks others as he is able.

Every person builds his own way to heaven on the foundation of self. Whether it be:

Prideful Self

Atheistic Self

Agnostic Self

Religious Self…it makes no difference. All self is wrong and will end someone up in hell at the end of the line.

Your tower is supposed to be built on Christ Jesus. Your tower is supposed to be built by God–not you.

God doesn’t like self-reliance. For relying on self means not relying on God. Dependance on self means not depending on God.

This is the sin of man. This is where all sin stems from.

THE TREE OF SELF, BEARS THE FRUIT OF ALL SIN.

Who is building your tower to heaven?
